November 1st is Acromegaly Awareness Day!
Today is #AcromegalyAwarenessDay around the world!
Acromegaly is a rare disease yet few people are able to distinguish its symptoms. It takes an average of 8 painful years for an acromegaly patient to be diagnosed with Acromegaly.
Common symptoms include enlarged hands, feet, and tongue, headaches, fatigue, sweating, gaps between teeth, facial changes, painful joints – just to name a few.
If you notice these symptoms in yourself or others, talk to your doctor about taking a GH or IGF-1 hormone test.
What can you do?
You can alert and guide patients to seek medical advice for an early diagnosis by sharing this post. If you are a patient and wish to share your story, please do so at our WAPO website.
This is a part of a global Acromegaly awareness campaign launched by WAPO.
